An alcohol detection system is the solution that VinBus Ecology Transport Services Co., Ltd. – an electric bus operator serving the public with a fleet of roughly 600 vehicles and 1,300 drivers – chose to replace manual alcohol checks with a synchronized control model powered by ALC-PRO. This is the story of how a large public transport company made operational safety the foundation of everything it does.
Given the scale of the communities it serves, VinBus treats operational safety as a core pillar. A company representative explained:
“We fully comply with Vietnam’s Road Traffic Law on traffic safety. For alcohol levels specifically, we set a higher bar — checks happen before a driver even starts their shift. This policy comes with clear disciplinary measures. Every violation is handled strictly. A repeat violation within a short period can mean suspension from work.”

Before adopting its current system, VinBus relied on handheld breathalyzers and random spot checks conducted on routes while drivers were already on duty. This approach helped build initial awareness, but it was fragmented and couldn’t guarantee consistent checks before every single shift.
To address this gap, VinBus began deploying the ALC-PRO alcohol detection system, first launching in July 2022 at its Phu Quoc and Smart City units, then expanding to Ocean Park in November 2022. The device selected was the ALC-PRO II.
The main driver behind this shift was the ability to test each driver quickly, accurately, and consistently before they took on a shift — not just to catch violations, but to serve a clearer purpose: making sure every shift starts in a safe state, protecting operational safety, company assets, and road safety across the entire network.
Since rolling out the system, the change has been clearly visible across operating units.
Mr. Cường (Smart City) noted that driver awareness has shifted noticeably: each driver now proactively completes their pre-shift check, treating it as a mandatory responsibility that protects themselves, passengers, and the community.
Mr. Hải (Ocean Park) shared that consistent, seamless testing through the alcohol detection system has helped keep alcohol levels well under control, reduced operational risk, and strengthened both service quality and the company’s reputation. Notably, the habit has also carried over into drivers’ daily lives, with many cutting back on alcohol and paying closer attention to their health.
